When to announce your pregnancy

There's no universal right time to announce a pregnancy, and the 'wait until 12 weeks' convention exists for a practical reason: miscarriage risk drops significantly after the first trimester, falling from roughly 10–20% to under 2% after week 12. Many couples choose to tell close family and trusted friends earlier while waiting for the broader announcement. Factors that influence timing: whether you want support from your community if a loss does occur, whether you have visible symptoms or a growing belly that makes waiting impractical, and whether your workplace or social commitments make waiting difficult.

An early ultrasound that confirms a heartbeat (usually around week 8–10) is a reassuring milestone many couples use as their personal green light.
